This full-day escape takes you beyond the city’s energy to discover two strikingly different landscapes: the serene waters of Lake Takerkoust and the raw, lunar beauty of the Agafay Desert.

Your journey begins in the morning with a private pick-up from your riad. As you leave the bustle of the city behind, the scenery gradually opens into rolling countryside dotted with olive groves, dry plains, and traditional Berber villages. The road gently leads you to Lake Takerkoust, a man-made reservoir dating back to the early 20th century, now seamlessly blended into its natural surroundings. Here, the still waters reflect the snow-capped peaks of the Atlas, creating a peaceful and almost dreamlike atmosphere.

This is the perfect setting to slow down and indulge. You may choose to enjoy a refined lakeside lunch at Flouka, known for its elegant ambiance, or opt for a more authentic culinary experience with a Berber family in the heart of Agafay. Each option offers its own charm, but both promise a moment of genuine connection and tranquility.

In the afternoon, the landscape shifts dramatically as you venture into the Agafay Desert. Unlike the Sahara’s golden dunes, Agafay reveals a rugged expanse of rocky hills and soft, undulating terrain. Its beauty is subtle yet powerful—harsh and sun-drenched in summer, unexpectedly vibrant with wildflowers in spring. Once crossed by nomadic tribes, this mineral desert invites contemplation, with sweeping views stretching all the way to the High Atlas Mountains.

The experience continues across the Kik Plateau, a natural vantage point offering breathtaking panoramas over the region. A stop in Moulay Brahim adds a spiritual dimension to the day. This hillside village, steeped in devotion, honors one of Morocco’s most revered Sufi figures and offers a glimpse into a deeply rooted cultural heritage.

By late afternoon, you return to Marrakech enriched by a day of contrasts—between water and desert, refinement and raw nature, stillness and discovery.

For those wishing to extend the experience, an overnight stay can be arranged—either by the lakeside in a peaceful guesthouse or in the heart of the desert at an elegant camp such as Le Pause, where silence and starlight create an unforgettable atmosphere.
